Refyne EP1 Pen: Built To Last
Overview
The Refyne EP1 is a simple, yet eloquently designed pen meant to endure the test of time. Refyne's website it simple and doesn't have a lot of information about their background, but it is clear by their products that they make high quality items. So quality that they have a manufacturers lifetime warranty on their pens, which is awesome to see. The EP1 is their main product and they sell it in many different materials. The one that I have is stainless steel and runs at about $40.

Key Features
The EP1 gets the job done and doesn't try to do anything too fancy. The main and obvious feature of this pen is the bolt action deployment of the stylus. As I mention in my YouTube Review, the spring powered bolt action doubles as a fidget toy because it is so fun to operate. The piston racks and unracks in a checkmark shaped pattern at the end of the pen. Refyne does offer the option to buy a different colored piston to swap out, if you are really trying to customize your look. The other key thing to note with this pen is it is not very long, coming in at 4.5 inches long. This size makes it optimal for being just long enough to fit into your hand while writing with not much room to spare. There is also a deep carry clip, so it fits perfectly in one's pocket and it is ready to be deployed at a moments notice. Finally, this pen is meant to withstand your everyday life for years on end, so when you eventually run out of ink, this pen is compatible with any Parker G2 refills. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the ink deployment of the standard EasyFLOW ink that came with the pen, so when I swap cartridges I will likely change it up. |
Conclusion
At the end of the day, the EP1 is still just a pen, so I'm not going to talk at nauseum about it's features. I've used several EDC pens this past year, and the EP1 has outshined all the rest. The biggest hang-up I can see people getting caught up on is the short length, since people are accustomed to longer writing utensils, but it really didn't bother me. My stainless steel pen has gotten put through the ringer after being dropped on hard surface many times and it still looks and feels amazing. Refyne offers some really beautiful iterations of this pen, which I can see people really falling in love with.
