Timex Ironman "Blackout" Watch
Overview
Timex has been making Ironman watches for many years and has probably sold millions of units in that time period, so it is safe to assume that you probably know about a bit about this watch, so I won't go too much into detail on the ins and outs of what it can offer. This particular review is of the Timex Ironman "Blackout" version of the watch, which simply has a blacked out screen with grey letters, which is the inverse of the more common color variants with the grey background with the black letters. Most of the comments besides "looks" will be applicable to ALL Timex Ironman watches. In general, the Timex Ironman watch is a simple digital watch that lasts an extremely long time. Based on my experience, these watches will last years without having to change the battery. The obvious downside to this watch in today's world, is that it is NOT a smart watch, so if you are looking for something that connects to your phone or with GPS, you are looking in the wrong place! Overall this is a great watch, that I still use in races and daily life despite having other "smart" alternatives. Now let's get into the details of this watch….

Pros
There is a lot to like about this watch. I'll start with the looks, since it is the only thing that separates this particular watch with other Timex Ironman Watches out there. The blackout color scheme gives it a rugged and almost military look that makes it a bit more clean for everyday wearing around, so I am a huge fan. Another thing about the Blackout version of this watch is the band integrates with the watch face in such a way that it appears as if it is all one piece, which also sets it apart from other Timex watches. As I stated before, this watch lasts an extremely long time with a multi-year battery life. Not only does it keep ticking, but it is also physically durable. It can take the abuse of everyday life or the outdoors and it is completely water proof up to 100 meters! Like the other Timex watches some other major benefits are its INDIGLO backlight for seeing in the dark and you don't have to break the bank to get it! This watch has a lot going for it, but I wouldn't be doing you guys any help if I didn't talk about the negatives. |
Cons
The one major thing that you might notice this far into the review is the watch face itself. On my YouTube video, I get lots of complaints that the watch time is too hard to read because of its "Blackout" styling. At worst case, it takes me a second longer to fully read my time than it would on a normal Timex Watch, so it doesn't really bother me. If you can tell that it might be hard for you to read, I suggest getting a standard looking Timex Ironman Watch. Besides the looks, technology is trending in everything being connected, so it is important to bring up this watch does not have Bluetooth or a heartrate monitor. A lot of people love the connectivity, but if you just need to tell the time, track the splits of your workout, or want something that won't die after 5 days without charging, than you might not care about Bluetooth. Finally, a lot of workout watches these days have GPS and again it is important to note that this watch does not have GPS, so it is the downside to this watch. Some of the other Timex Watches need to have their bands replaced every so often because they last so long, so that is another downside to the plastic/rubber straps that come with this watch, but I haven't had to replace mine on this watch yet! |
Conclusion
Obviously this isn't a smart watch and if you are looking into this watch, you probably aren't interested in one. This watch is versatile in that it is great for everyday keeping track of the time or for logging your splits in a marathon. Timex has gotten this watch down to a science over the years and it lasts incredibly long for a watch that costs less than $50. In particular, I'm a huge fan of this colorway over the rest of the Ironman watches Timex has to offer. In general, if you are looking for a simple and durable sports watch, you cannot go wrong with Timex.
