Wayfinder Daybreaker: The Modern Billfold
Overview
Wayfinder is a neat company with a cool background. I was fortunate enough to talk with Hrag, the founder and owner of the company when he sent me several of his wallets to checkout. Hrag was a designer for Nike prior to branching off and starting his own company. Wayfinder high quality and uniquely designed products for individuals to carry with them throughout their day. There will be multiple reviews of this company, but for this article the Wayfinder Carry Daybreaker will be examined, which is a minimalist billfold wallet like no other on the market.

Key Features
The most obvious feature that sets the Wayfinder Accessory line apart from their competitors is the material of the wallets. Having a background in consumer wearables, Hrag made a distinct choice in using TPU coated polyester for the material of these items. A cross between a rubber tire and a thick fabric, this rubbery material makes for a unique wallet that will be unlike any of your peers. Besides the feel of the material, it allows the wallet to be thin without compromising overall durability. Some people online complain that the stickiness of the material is a nuisance when trying to remove from pockets, but I much prefer this feature to mitigate fears of my wallet sliding out when I'm wearing slick materials (like sweatpants). This stickiness also made for a great feeling taking it out and tossing it like a frisby onto a solid table and watching it stick. |
In comparison to some of the metal wallets I've reviewed on the market, this wallet is easy on your cards and won't scratch up pocket knives or whatever else you carry in that particular pocket. Finally, in regards to the material it is hydrophobic (beads water) for short periods of time and it is able to be washed in the washer machine without any issues. Besides the material this wallet also has some really neat design features. It's a bit "taller" than most wallets, allowing it to have enough room for foreign currency of all different shapes and sizes (pictured above is USD). This design isn't an inconvenience if you only carry dollars, because this large top actually tapers the thickness of this wallet and reduces the "x-ray" the wallet makes in your pockets. Overall the design of this wallet is very simple and doesn't over complicate the tool that it is.

Conclusion
If it isn't obvious, overall I was very impressed with this wallet. The Daybreaker, along with other Wayfinder products, seem to have a perfect blend of being unique and utilitarian without trying to hard. The design is simple, yet elegant and some of the qualities are hard to describe until you have one of them in your hand. I love the balance of its density, while maintaining a very light feel. It's a neat wallet that is unlike any others I've seen on the market and I think there is something really cool to that.
